Who Would Have Predicted That Orwell Was Only 20 Years Early in Predicting the Arrival of 1984?

When reading Orwell's 1984 most readers would have predicted those conditions of propaganda and perpetual state of war would not arrive for a long time, certainly not within their life time.  Having listened to the mainstream media and public broadcasting outlets for long enough, the propaganda has certainly arrived as has our perpetual state of war (on Drugs, on Crime, on Terror).
